About

Hello! My name is Abby Kessler and I am studying art practices at the University of Colorado Boulder. I plan on getting a bachelor's degree in fine arts with a minor in media design. I've loved all kinds of art since I was little so much that it is my first memory. In the beginning, I started by practicing more classical art practices like drawing and painting and only recently began my journey with other art forms. In high school, I began experimenting by taking photography and modeling. I quickly excelled at both and even won a Scholastic art and writing award for a self-portrait I did and was photographed by 303 Magazine for my catwalk at Denver Fashion Week In the spring 2020 season (see here). Art is my passion. I love the freedom that comes hand in hand with making art and expressing yourself in a healthy creative way.

The art I like to create is very surrealistic and a little creepy for some. An artist I am inspired by is Leonora Carrington who is a surrealist painter that creates "haunting, autobiographical, somewhat inscrutable paintings that incorporate images of sorcery, metamorphosis, alchemy, and the occult" according to Britannica. The pictures shown to the right are from my AP painting class where my portfolio focused on human fears.
